Suffering From Sleep Apnea?

Sleep apnea is a common but serious sleep disorder.  You may not notice any difference in your sleep.  However, your breathing can constantly stop and start resulting in extreme fatigue and exhaustion throughout the night.  This condition can lead to serious health issues such as heart attack, hypertension, diabetes, stroke to name a few.

Common sleep apnea symptoms:

  • Restlessness/insomnia (anxiety)
  • Waking up with choking or gasping for air
  • Snoring/heavy breathing during sleep
  • Waking up with a sore or dry throat
  • Forgetfulness (inability to focus)
  • Mood swings
  • Weight gain
  • Low libido
  • Headaches (AM)

Lack of sleep induces hormonal changes (decreases the hormone leptin – which is the hormone responsible for decreasing hunger, and therefore causing us to crave unhealthy foods).  Evaluating one’s health related to sleep apnea should include:

  • Sleep study
  • Spinal adjustments (to remove nerve interference)
  • Nutritional assessment
  • Lifestyle changes
